A Fantastic Exhibition and Reunion Night!

It was the big that I have waited for. It was the reunion of the Castle College students especially in the previous years students. It was such an honour. When I came in right into the building I was so nervous to see everyone again because that I am going to be like one of the attention of the whole college kind of type. It was like many people would recognise me. Firstly, I seen is Carolynn, she was brilliant and had a good chat with me and everything. Then, Julian came in by surprised as always and being a great guy too. Then I saw Shea and Ali and had a good chat with them. I also took 2 glasses of red wine and they were nice! Then, I bumped to Frances and Steph! It was a big surprise because like everyone is altogether again, then came Natalie and Tom. It was so much fun! Then I seen George and Marek. When I saw George's hair, his dreadlocks have been cut off! I was quite shocked that he looked different, but still the same person anyway. Hee hee.

The exhibition at my college looks better than ever. It was my first time over there and I can feel like it has been expanded and improved so much too. It would be nice if I was in that building when I studied there. But now everything has been different and I feel like an outsider as you can see! But everyone is treating me like a family of course. It has been 2 years since I was there and like wow! But, time goes so fast. When I saw Emily's Insect Wings jewellery they looked amazing! I wished that I could do some jewellery for some of my final work, but I will have to do some when I am uni or in my own time too. Also, I seen Annie Ip's work with her illustration and her paperwork, it looks so amazing! She is going to London to do her degree, so proud of her. Then, also Lewis Parnell's work with architecture looks fantastic, with his models of his designs and his portfolio looks fantastic, so proud of him. I think that he will pull out in a few years time!

It was a fantastic experience for me to see everyone back in town again! We looked so glamorous tonight. When I saw Amy, Hayley, Anne, Leanne and Chris with Jack; it was amazing and I was like "OMG" and give hugs and everything. It was an honour to see everyone again, and we went out to the LAST POST pub to have dinner together and it was a fantastic dinner, with cocktails, drinks and dinner. We have to do this more often. It was excellent! I had a few drinks and I was fine, but had a good conversation with everyone of who I wanted to catch up with. I wished that it could have been longer and met more new people too!

Thank you for reading my blog and I will update you with my news very soon!

University of Derby Degree Show Preview Night 2010

I was ready to see all of the work being produced by the third years of my course and their exhibition was absolutely amazing. I loved the Textiles exhibition because it was my course after all. It was an unforgettable experience because it was so much people and I had some familiar faces of university, college and even secondary school people too. I was absolute shock and it was a big surprise. I had a good chat with my third year classmates with their work and congratulate them with their work especially the woven and the menswear garments such as cardigans. I couldn't take photos on the nght 2because it was a big event and being surrounded by everyone in the building. Also, I met some new people that it was absolutely nice and got people talking too. I have not seen Sarah that she has done her final year of Crafts specialising of Ceramics and her work was good.

I had a look at some of my friends' work and the displays looked amazing! Here, I have picked some of my favourite ones and also relates to my work especially with menswear for my exhibition for next year.

 Cheryl Young's fabrics
She picked some lovely smooth polyester and done digital printing onto paper (disperse dyes) and print it herself. Fashion Print fabrics for women's dresses. I think that it is a strong piece and also an excellent variety of colours and images of her samples.

 Charlotte Sanderson Final Show
"Knitted Menswear"

Charlotte's knitted work for menswear and I can see it for All Saints. I really love of how she made the whole garment out and I think that she is brilliant. That is what I want to do for my final exhibition to proudce my own garments and own collection wise!

Jenny Garner's Final Show
"Woven Fabrics for stairs"

Emily Marriott's Final Show

Sharon Ann Maskrey's Final Show

I also met Gillian Wills of who is a felt jewellery artist, she was fantastic, done some bracelets and some necklaces too! I was so impressed with her work and I would like her to teach me or 2 with felt-making. It has been a very long time since I done it with college, with Jane Chapman and Georgina Rodgers.

Ceremony Day Not to be Forgotten...

It was a nice dry day today to Bradford. I was feeling so nervous and wanting to get my award very soon and fast too. I wore a red pinstripe white shirt, jeans, black Base London shoes and a white tailored jacket to be like a designer, but at first that I want to wear the whole thing in full suit, but then again wear everything comfortable and not exposed too much in the crowd. My group had been taken photographs before we went on the minibus to Bradford. It was so much fun with photography and lots of smiles too. It was a quiet morning on the minibus and we had sweets along the way when we were bored. It was around an hour and a half to get to Bradford and also we were lost to get to the Rio Grande hotel, but we made it in the end to get registered.
It was around 11.11am and we went to Bombay Stores - The UK's Largest Asian Department Store, which is a trusted name in textiles from all over the world with over 40 years of experience in supplying needlecraft enthusiasts with the largest and most exciting fabric haberdashery departments in the North... . It had womenswear, menswear, footwear, kidswear, jewllery, fabric, bridalwear, make up, lycras, craft cottons/far 1/4's, jelly rolls and lots more. It was a fantastic shop to go to and I would go there again because it had everything, we had a free goody bag with leaflets and also a pack of fabric samples.

Then, we went for the tour in the Wholesale Fabric Warehouse, it was interesting and also the supplies that they have that we can order and also get a good quantity of things too.

After the tour, it was lunch and we had curry chicken and cauliflower curry with naan bread, onion bahti and salad with creamy mint sauce. It was delicious! Absolutely delicious!!! After lunch, we took photos in the Rio Grande's dining room with their stage that we are proper kings and queens. It was absolute a laugh and we enjoyed every moment of it, and later on that the other groups have stolen the Derby University's idea and that should be sealed and no one copies Derby's ideas!!! BECAUSE WE RULE!!!

After the gorgeous curry lunch, we made our journey to National Media Museum to view our entries and for the awards ceremony! I seen some of the winning entries and most of them are good, but some are not excellent quality. I felt that it has been biased that us Derby students worked so hard, and also competing other universities especially Nottingham Trent University that it has a reputation of their discipline that they don't accept students to their university without their grades C or above in GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics, that they were snobby and also they kept things to themselves, but I didn't find their work that impressive especially without any guidance from their tutors. But, I hoped that Derby will have their reputation next year!

When it was the awards ceremony begun, it was very exciting and I was so nervous to collect my award. It was a long time, we had the Première Vision talk from a French lady from the organisation herself and it was interesting the presentation video. I would like to go there someday when it is my turn to go there. It is going to be huge over there, some of my friends in my course said that it was massive and a lot of people too.

Then, it begun with the Weave Awards, then Knit, Print, Combined Textiles, Ecological and finally the Fashion part. Mostly everyone have got their awards, but only 3 people from my university have got one of the 3 top prizes, such as Hannah got 1st Place in the Interiors section for Woven Fabrics, Alice got a 2nd Place for the Year 1 Knitting category and another person have won 2nd Place in the Combined Textiles for Interiors category. Then most of us got Commendation awards.

When it was my moment to get my award, I was so nervous and also I was so desperate to get my award and then out of here. But, I really enjoyed the experience and I was the last person to collect the award for the categories before the big ones coming up. When Jonathan Dyson mentioned my name, my team has big cheers for me, and I knew that Jonathan has pronounced Kay-O, instead of "Car-Ho". I was bit embarrassed, but oh well, never mind. And once, I've got up to collect my award, and everyone got their award. When it was me, I've walked proud and smiled to everyone and my team cheered for me for collecting my award and I was so honoured to walk and collect it too! I was so lost for words and it made me realized that I can work harder and also I am also talented too. I wished that Derby have won the whole thing to be honest, I feel like it was another Eurovision Contest that type.

I am going to enter again next year and will get that first place very soon! It was a great experience and I am going to work harder for next year too and making my own projects in summer to get some information down and do some experimentation with different techniques too to get a head start for Year 3!

Thank you for reading my blog and have a great day...
